The all-screen iPhone has been a subject of discussion for years now and the company is gradually working towards it. The majority of the bezels were slashed with the launch of the iPhone X back in 2017 when Apple removed Touch ID from the Home button and replaced it with Face ID and a notch. Now, Apple is gradually moving away from the notch with the launch of the iPhone 15 lineup later this year. The latest on the subject suggests that Apple is planning to introduce in-display Touch ID again on iPhone.
Apple will potentially move Touch ID as well as Face ID under the display in the coming years
The full-screen iPhone dream remains unscathed for many and it will probably take Apple years before it happens. User “yeux1122” states that Touch ID under the display will be introduced on iPhone in the coming years. According to the report, in-display Touch ID will serve numerous other purposes other than authentication.
Apart from the iPhone, Apple is also making use of Touch ID on the iPad. For instance, the latest iPad mini 6 and the iPad Air 5 feature Touch ID embedded in the Power button. Ross Young stated on Twitter today that it will take Apple at least two years to bring in-display Face ID to the iPhone.
