If you own an iPhone you’d be wised to head to your settings without delay and download the very latest iOS update. Apple has just released a very important upgrade to its popular operating system with the US tech firm recommending all users install it as soon as possible. “This update provides important bug fixes and security updates”, Apple confirmed in its release notes.
The reason for the urgency is that this latest patch has been released due to a number of bugs being discovered within iOS. That may not sound that scary but three of the glitches have been given the dreaded zero-day rating. For those not already aware, that alert means hackers are already aware of the flaws and could be using them in the wild to target users.
Here are the three issues discovered by Apple:
Kernel: A local attacker may be able to elevate their privileges. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited against versions of iOS before iOS 16.7.
Security: A malicious app may be able to bypass signature validation. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited against versions of iOS before iOS 16.7.
WebKit: Processing web content may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited against versions of iOS before iOS 16.7.

Luckily, once the new update is installed, all iPhones will be safe again which is why it’s so important to make sure you’re device has it downloaded.
The only slight complication is that Apple is right in the middle of a new iOS launch cycle with its iOS 17 update being pushed out earlier this week.
iOS 17 includes upgrades such as a StandBy Mode, improved Messages, more interactive FaceTime calls and easier ways to share contact details.
As not everyone will have upgraded to iOS 17 just yet, Apple has released two upgrades including iOS 16.7 and iOS 17.0.1.
