BSA trauma services achieves Level III designation

BSA Health System was proud to announce Friday that its trauma services department has earned a Level III designation, providing patients, local EMS providers and surrounding hospitals an additional option for trauma care.

“Access to board certified trauma surgeons 24/7/365 significantly improves our capability to provide high quality care for patients in emergency situations as a result of trauma,” said BSA Chief Medical Officer Michael Lamanteer, M.D. “This designation represents our ongoing commitment to ensuring the community receives necessary trauma evaluation and treatment as quickly as possible.”

As a Level III trauma hospital, BSA provides access to trauma surgery, vascular surgery, interventional radiology and other emergency services, as well as support for smaller, regional trauma centers.

“We are dedicated to providing high level care to members of our community across the region,” says Chief Nursing Officer Katrina Tokar. “The Level III designation gives patients and their families a greater opportunity to stay local for the treatment of traumatic injuries.”

“Earning this certification allows our community to know we have the resources and commitment to provide the best possible stroke care,” said BSA Chief Medical Officer Michael Lamanteer, M.D. “This designation reflects our combination of the right equipment, personnel and training to quickly evaluate and treat patients presenting with stroke. Achieving certification validates all the effort we have put into this program and our commitment to the health and safety of our patients.”

The DNV Primary Plus Stroke Center Certification is based on standards set forth by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association. This certification affirms that the BSA Stroke Center addresses the full spectrum of stroke care – diagnosis, treatment, thrombectomy intervention, rehabilitation and education – and establishes clear metrics to evaluate outcomes.

“Achieving certification shows BSA’s standard of excellence,” said BSA Vice President of Cardiovascular Services Matt Parker. “This designation indicates BSA as the only thrombectomy-capable certified facility in the region.”

According to the American Stroke Association, stroke is a leading cause of death and serious long-term adult disability. Rapid and effective treatment can save lives while providing the best chance of limiting the extent of long-term damage.
