Airbus maintains commercial aircraft delivery target


US interest rates: The Federal Reserve is expected to raise interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point, taking the federal funds rate to a target range of 5.25 to 5.5 per cent, as it resumes its most aggressive monetary tightening campaign in decades after a pause in June.

Hunter Biden: US president Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden will make an initial appearance in a federal court in Delaware after agreeing to plead guilty to two criminal tax violations and reaching a deal with prosecutors over a separate gun charge. The younger Biden continues to pose a political problem for his father as the latter seeks re-election.

Meta: Facebook and Instagram parent Meta will report earnings for the first time since launching its Twitter rival Threads. Investors will be listening for commentary on Threads’ monetisation plan and any new features such as direct messaging. Analysts expect Meta to have earned $2.89 a share on revenue of $31.1bn in the three months to June, up from $28.8bn during the same period of 2022.

Other earnings: Beverage giant Coca-Cola, aerospace and defence contractors Boeing and General Dynamics, telecommunications company AT&T, hotel group Hilton and oil and gas producer Hess will report earnings before the opening bell. Barbie maker Mattel, casual dining chain Chipotle and ecommerce platform eBay will report after the market closes.
