The metro line being constructed in the city is 30 km long. The priority stretch comprises 3 kms of elevated and 3 km of underground track.
The work for the priority stretch was wrapped up in 11 months.
Building an underground metro station and tunnelling work takes thrice as long compared to elevated stations. The Agra Metro project did this in a record time of 11 months “including the tunnel construction through TBM, Track work, entire third rail laying work and signalling work to ensure smooth and safe train movement,” news agency IANS reported quoting an official.
Sushil Kumar, Managing Director, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) termed this as a major achievement and an example of great coordination shown particularly by civil, track, traction, signaling, E&M, and telecom team.
According to a UPMRC statement, the train testing will now be done on the entire priority stretch which is getting ready to be opened for public in the near future. The systems and signalling work will also be completed by the next month, it added.
