A diversified portfolio for a new mutual fund investor

I am an ordinary Indian guy and I am planning to invest my hard-earned money in equity mutual funds. I am not interested in high gains in the stock market at all. I can invest upto Rs 50 lakh in a well diversified portfolio for 1 to 3 years.
I am 45 years old.

It seems you are not familiar with mutual funds. If so, you should seek the help of a financial planner or mutual fund advisor before investing. You must first figure out your financial goals, investment horizons, and risk tolerance before investing in mutual funds. You may need a lot of guidance and reassurance in the initial years. Only an advisor or planner near you will be able to offer such help.

If you are investing for a short period of one to three years , you should invest in debt mutual funds. If you’re investing for a year, you should invest in an ultra short duration fund or low duration fund. If you are investing for three years or more, you can invest in short duration funds, corporate bond funds, banking & PSU funds, dynamic bond funds, etc. We do not recommend equity mutual funds to investors unless they have an investment horizon of five to seven years.

You should proceed extremely carefully as you are investing in large amount.
