A deal that has the chance to remake the Middle East suddenly looks more tangible: the normalization of relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia.
Last week, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman told Fox News that “every day we get closer” to concluding the “biggest historical deal since the end of the Cold War.”
Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country and Saudi Arabia, which is home to Islam’s two holiest sites and considers itself the leader of the Muslim world, were “at the cusp” of a “dramatic breakthrough” that “will truly create a new Middle East.”
