A cocoon of peace

How can we reach a state in which the turmoil and difficulties of the world around us do not disturb our peace? Interactions with others can be disruptive when we have disagreements or engage in intellectual wrangling.

The key is to experience such tremendous joy in meditation that we are oblivious to the turmoil around us. We have to learn to be in a spiritual, meditative cocoon that helps us remain in a state of bliss and joy after we finish meditating. Just as indoor air conditioning can help keep us cool and comfortable despite high temperatures outside, so can meditation keep us peaceful and calm as we deal with the outer world.

In meditation, as we experience God’s love, we find there is more to our existence than what goes on in the physical world. As we spend time in meditation, we create a calm haven in which we restore equilibrium and peace to our mental functioning. Researchers have recorded that the brain activity in people who meditate reflects a state of deep relaxation. Their mind becomes calmer. The tranquil effect of meditation lasts beyond the time spent in meditation. The carry-over effect helps us maintain peace of mind as we continue our activities throughout the day.

The more we practice, the more we will enjoy deeper states of consciousness that protect us from all that interfere with our state of peace and calm.
