8-Year-Old Killed in Silverton Drive-By Shooting Identified – Cincinnati CityBeat

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s office said it’s investigating the shooting death of an 8-year-old girl who was killed in an overnight drive-by shooting at a Silverton home.

The sheriff’s office said deputies were dispatched to the shooting in the 6000 block of Plainfield Road around 11:40 p.m. on July 10. A statement from the office said the young girl was inside the home when she was shot.

She was transported to the Jewish Hospital where she later died from the single gunshot wound, according to the Hamilton County Coroner’s report. The report identifies the girl as 8-year-old Damyih Pickes-Barton.

The child is the second young victim to be killed in a drive-by shooting in the Cincinnati area this month.

On July 5, the Cincinnati Police Department said Shamari Mingo, 18, was shot at the 200 block of E. 5th Street near Fountain Square. Police were called to the area for reports of gunshots just before 2:30 a.m. where officers found two people who had been shot in a drive-by. A CPD spokesperson said Mingo was pronounced dead at the scene.

CPD has experienced heightened calls for shootings involving teens and children in 2023.
