The Milwaukee area boasts some of the premier high school basketball talent in Wisconsin. Here are 25 players to watch going in the 2023-24 season, listed alphabetically.

Isaiah Allen, 6-4, sr., Milwaukee Lutheran

The guard was an all-Woodland Conference East first-team player as a junior while averaging 15.8 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. He is committed to NCAA Division II Northern Michigan.

Ahmad Badwan, 6-3, sr., Salam

The reigning state scoring champion averaged 35.4 points per game as a junior to improve upon a 13.5 average from his sophomore season. The forward/guard also averaged 12.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists and was named the Lake City Conference’s player of the year.

Bennett Basich, 6-4, sr., Arrowhead

The UW-Green Bay commit is the leading returning starter from an Arrowhead team that reached the Division 1 title game last season. The all-Classic 8 guard averaged 15.9 points, 9.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists last season, tops for returning Warhawks.

Devin Brown, 6-7, jr., Milwaukee Academy of Science

The Novas’ run to the Division 3 state semifinals was led by a breakout sophomore campaign from Brown, who averaged 21.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists. The forward has NCAA Division I offers from Bryant, Detroit Mercy, Grambling State, Mississippi State and Western Illinois.

Jack Daugherty, 6-7, sr., Brookfield Central

The all-Greater Metro Conference first-team selection averaged 17.4 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists last season. The forward is committed to Illinois State.

Dupree Fletcher Jr., 6-0, sr., Carmen Northwest

The Grambling State commit averaged 22.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.3 assists last season as the Milwaukee City Gold player of the year.

Elijah Griffin, 6-0, jr., Westosha Central

Griffin earned all-Southern Lakes first-team honors for a season in which he averaged 14.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 7.2 assists while setting a school record with 25 assists in a game against Kenosha Tremper. He reports an NCAA Division I offer from Bryant.

Davion Hannah, 6-6, jr., Nicolet

The transfer wing from Milwaukee Academy of Science was pivotal in Nicolet’s run to the Division 2 state semifinals last year, averaging 19.9 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists. He reports NCAA Division I offers from Arizona State, Bradley, Cincinnati, LSU, Marquette, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Oregon and Wisconsin.

Ky’Moni Hunt, 5-9, sr., Milwaukee Hamilton

The senior guard is poised for a much larger role after teammates Demarion Burch (Bradley) and Simeon Murchison (UW-Milwaukee) graduated. He averaged 16.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists as the third option in a prolific offense last season.

Nick Janowski, 6-3, sr., Pewaukee

The Nebraska commit has been a driving force behind Pewaukee’s three-straight Division 2 state titles. The guard averaged 23.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.9 assists as a junior.

Jaquan Johnson, 5-11, sr., Pius XI

As a junior, the guard led Pius XI with 27.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 6.0 assists, and was named an all-Woodland West first-team member. He holds Division I offers from Bradley, Grambling State, Austin Peay State and SIU-Edwardsville.

Eric Kenesie, 6-0, sr., Kenosha St. Joseph

A breakout junior campaign for the guard culminated in a WIAA state tournament record 51-point performance in a semifinal win over St. Mary Catholic. The first team all-Metro Classic Conference member averaged 22.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists last season.

Kon Knueppel II, 6-6, sr., Wisconsin Lutheran

The Duke commit is a top-20 nationally ranked prospect and top Wisconsin prospect in the 2024 recruiting class. As a junior, he averaged 19.7 points, 9.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists for the Vikings.

Sekou Konneh, 6-8, sr., St. Thomas More

One half of perhaps the best area forward duo, Konneh averaged 16.6 points, 14.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists last year. He holds Division I offers from Indiana State, Loyola (Ill.), Miami (Ohio) and UW-Milwaukee.

Jack Lutz, 6-0, jr., Whitnall

Whitnall reached the Division 2 state final led by the scoring of Lutz, who averaged 17.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists last season. He is projected to take on more of the offensive load with fellow guard Austin Herro graduating in the spring.

Amari McCottry, 6-6, sr., St. Thomas More

The other half of the Cavaliers’ dominant duo with Sekou Konneh, McCottry averaged 23.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists last season. The reigning Metro Classic player of the year reports Division I offers from Arizona State, Grambling State, Indiana State, Louisiana Tech, Miami (Ohio) and UW-Milwaukee.

Michael McNabb Jr., 6-4, sr., Grafton

The Northern Michigan commit was a first-team all-North Shore selection after averaging 23.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists last season.

Nolan Minessale, 6-5, sr., Marquette

The St. Thomas commit is the reigning Greater Metro Conference player of the year after averaging 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists last season.

Anthony Przybilla, 6-6, sr., Brookfield Academy

The son of former Milwaukee Bucks center Joel Przybilla earned first-team all-Midwest Classic honors from the guard/small forward position while averaging 18.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists last season.

Marquell Robinson, 6-1, sr., Tenor/Veritas

The second-leading scorer in the state last season by average, Robinson carried a clip of 34.0 points, 8.9 rebounds and 4.9 assists through 2022-23. He was also a defensive threat with 9.1 steals per game.

Connor Roffers, 6-4, sr., Burlington

A first-team all-Southern Lakes selection in 2022-23, the senior wing averaged 16.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists last season.

Kai Rogers, 6-11, jr., Wauwatosa West

The highly-touted prospect already has garnered offers from Auburn, Georgetown, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Marquette, UW-Milwaukee, Minnesota, Mississippi, Penn State, Purdue, Seton Hall, South Florida, St. John’s, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia and Wisconsin. He averaged 15.8 points, 10.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists while earning first-team all-Greater Metro Conference honors.

Jakari Smith, 6-3, soph., Milwaukee Bradley Tech

Smith started as a freshman, averaging 7.9 points, 9.5 rebounds and 0.5. assists. He reports Division I offers from Cal State-Bakersfield and Robert Morris.

Drew Wagner, 5-10, sr., Kettle Moraine

The Army football commit is no slouch on the hardwood, averaging 19.1 points and 4.2 rebounds for a team that reached the Division 1 state tournament for the first time last season.

Aaron Womack III, 6-6, jr., Dominican

The forward/guard averaged 19.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists to earn first-team all-Metro Classic honors last season. He has an offer from UW-Milwaukee.
