We considered equity categories such as large cap, mid cap, multi cap, large & mid cap, focused fund, small cap, value & contra fund. We did not consider flexi cap schemes as these schemes were introduced three years ago, after Sebi recategorised mutual funds.. We considered regular and growth option schemes.
These 12 schemes were from small cap, mid cap, multi cap, focused fund, ELSS, and large & mid cap category. Four small cap schemes, two mid cap, ELSS, and large & mid cap schemes, one focused fund and multi cap fund gave more than 15% return in both three and five year horizons. No large cap, value fund and contra fund managed to offer more than 15% in both these horizons.
In the three-year horizon, Quant Tax Plan gave the highest return of around 30.46%. SBI Small Cap Fund gave the highest return in the five year horizon. The scheme offered 18.97%.
There might be some schemes that have offered more than 15% returns in any one horizon. But they did not make it to the above list as we included only the schemes that have offered more than 15% returns in both the horizons.
We calculated daily rolling returns for a three year period starting from August 17, 2020 to August 17, 2023. For the five year period, we calculated daily rolling returns starting from August 17, 2018 to August 17,2023.
Note, the above exercise is not a recommendation. The purpose of the exercise was to find out equity schemes that have offered more than 15% both three and five-year horizons.
One should not make investment or redemption decisions based on the above exercise. One should always consider their risk profile, investment horizon, and goal before making any investment decision.
